Soul Space, the journey within running Community Courses

Vijisha Venkatram and her team offer community classes through ‘Soul Space, The Journey Within,’ a nonprofit that provides yoga, meditation, workshops, and coaching. They aim to foster individual and community wellbeing, rooted in mindfulness, meditation, and yoga principles, and are accessible to everyone.

Through collaboration with Wyndham Council, local community centres host classes and workshops. In Melbourne’s Wyndham area, adults experience higher rates of ill health, isolation and psychological distress, leading to insufficient physical activity. Building on past successes like Older Adult yoga and parenting workshops, initiatives such as guest speakers on wellbeing topics alongside yoga classes spurred Vijisha to apply for a YFG Grant to expand programs.

Supporting Soul Space with sound healing and more

The YFG grant supported Soul Space in hosting ‘Parenting Better’ Sessions for multicultural families and yoga sessions. These sessions help parents navigate culture and intergenerational trauma, promoting emotional regulation for both parents and children through science and behavioural techniques. Additionally, the grant facilitated a series of yoga classes with sound healing led by Jennifer Tang.

Soul Space programs now include Children’s Yoga, Indian Dance Workout, and Yoga in the Park, all of which are aimed at teaching participants to interpret their body and mind signals for inner guidance. Mathumitha specialises in offering traditional Yoga tailored to the needs and limitations of seniors, fostering community and enhancing overall health and mental wellbeing.

Soul Space, the journey within, is for everyone.
