Dr Gemma Perry is a meditation researcher and yoga teacher specialising in the science of chanting and contemplative practices. She is also a qualified yoga teacher who has been practising and studying yoga psychology and philosophy for more than a decade.
With the support of a 2024 YFG Grant, she began developing an online education platform for yoga teachers and health practitioners.
Additionally, the grant supported a series of live and online workshops that focus on contemplative practices for better mental health.
While still in progress and undergoing content creation, the platform will feature videos, blogs, e-books, guided audio practices and infographics designed to make mantra and meditation accessible and easy to integrate into professional and personal life.
Two eight-week online chanting courses have already been delivered, with plans to run four terms each year moving forward. Participants shared that the workshops offered valuable insights and practical tools they could apply both personally and professionally. The sessions also helped nurture a welcoming chanting community that continues to grow.
Since launching these programs, over 100 e-books (Meditation for Busy People with Busy Minds) have been downloaded, 65 people have joined the newsletter and Gemma’s reach has expanded across platforms—with more than 40 new YouTube subscribers, hundreds of new Instagram followers and over 900 on TikTok. More importantly, the courses have started meaningful conversations among yoga teachers, psychotherapists and allied health professionals who are now willing to explore how sound-based practices can support wellbeing.
On the content side, several videos are finished, with more in post-production. A number of blog posts, e-books and infographics are either completed or underway. The grant also made it possible to invest in important tools like audio-visual gear, venue hire, website development and marketing to support and share this work more widely.

“I feel incredibly grateful for the support of this project. One thing is the funding, but the other is the belief in our project as a meaningful one to support – I can’t tell you how much this meant to me! It really helped me feel part of a beautiful community that all wants the same thing and wants to lift each other up in achieving that.” – Dr Gemma Perry
Gemma is confident in the future of her offerings, knowing the research has provided a strong foundation and there is now growing interest in mantra and chanting for mental health.
“With continued community engagement and support, I believe these offerings will continue to grow and make a meaningful impact.”
