This studio offers a program for Resilient Mind and Body with Yoga and Sound Healing for Renewal and Recovery in Far North Queensland.
Deborah Aldridge is bridging the gap between primary healthcare and the pandemic’s impact in the heavily affected Atherton region with an eight-session Yoga and Sound Healing program. Led by experienced professionals, it offers two weekly in-person sessions, one for yoga practitioners and another tailored for those with mobility barriers or beginners. Inclusive to all ages over 12 (children under 12 are welcome with an accompanying adult), fitness levels and cultural backgrounds.
Relocating to Atherton in 2022 after 27 years as a therapeutic clinician in complex trauma for government-funded organisations, Deborah ventured into sound healing. Motivated by her personal yoga journey, she integrated yoga into trauma recovery to explore new ways of enhancing physical, emotional and spiritual health for individuals and communities. Her motivation for this project stemmed from witnessing the community’s unpreparedness for the profound and enduring impact of the trauma on their daily lives.
“Mainstream media, chief medical officers and worldwide governments presented one way forward. This resulted in many individuals, communities and nations handing over their power to authorities for their own well-being and the well-being of those around them. There was very little promotion of our own capacity to protect ourselves and others through any other alternative paradigm.
I was working with complex trauma clients for the first half of the pandemic. I witnessed firsthand an explosion of new trauma layered on top of pre-existing trauma for many members of the community. The devastating impact of deteriorating mental health, fractured social connections and relationships, physical debilitation, perception of diminished safety, intense fear, grief and loss of loved ones and/or not being able to connect with loved ones; substance abuse and self-harm; isolation and overall loss of hopes for the future.” – Deborah
Deborah believes every traumatic event can be a catalyst for self-discovery, compassion, growth, and reexamining fundamental priorities and purpose.
The Yoga and Sound Healing program prioritises safety, self-care, and trauma release to achieve empowerment, body connection, and healing through sound. The vision is to strengthen the local community by fostering support, liberation and health awareness. This accessible, shared experience encourages connection among participants, emphasising grassroots collaboration over a top-down approach.
